August 29, 2012

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the city council of Comfrey met in special session Wednesday, August 28, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the community center with members present except councilor Herrig.  Mayor Richter presided.  Purpose of the meeting was for long-range planning and to handle any other business brought before the council.

Steve Berberich reported the sidewalks are being repaired so they are handicap accessible.  Berberich did note they are not going to meet state standards but the county opted not to make the changes.  If the sidewalks do not pass the state inspection, it will be at the county’s expense to repair and no additional cost to the city.

Long-range planning for all departments within the city was held.  Possible capitol improvements through the year 2017 were suggested.

The trade in of the current lawn mower for a new model in order to keep it under warranty was discussed.  On motion of Schmitt, seconded by Arnsdorf and carried unanimously, authorization was given to trade in the current mower for a 2013 at a cost of $2500.

The possible trade of the current city truck was also discussed.  Berberich received a price on a new 2013 truck of $25,000 on the State bid.  He is waiting on a quote from Crysteel for the snow plow, sander and box with all the same options that the current truck has.  On motion of Arnsdorf, seconded by Schmitt and carried unanimously it was voted to trade in the 2005 Chevrolet truck on a new 2013 model.

Note: Purchase of a lawn mower and city truck have been part of a long range plan to keep both pieces of equipment on a regular upgrade rotaion.

The annual wage review was held.  After discussion, on motion of Arnsdorf, seconded by Evers and carried unanimously it was voted effective January 1, 2013 to increase Steve Berberich’s wage by 75 cents, Nick Ludewig’s hourly wage by 50 cents and Jim Meyer’s health insurance allowance up to $75 per month.

The meeting adjourned on motion of Arnsdorf, seconded by Evers.
